Safety and Emergency Management

 

The Department of Safety and Emergency Management directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of the College's emergency management program. OEM enables, promotes, and supports the College community in effectively preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies.

 

In addition to College-wide efforts, OEM is available to provide guidance for departments developing and improving their emergency plans.

 


 

Standard Response Procedures

  • Shelter. Immediately relocate to an identified shelter location on the first floor when you receive a CougarAlert indicating a Tornado Warning. Remain calm and await further instructions.
  • Evacuate. Immediately relocate at least 300 feet from the facility during a fire alarm, gas leak, bomb threat or when directed. Remain calm and await further instructions.
  • Lockdown. AVOID - DENY - DEFEND. When your receive an indication or alert of an active attack then Avoid the area if possible. If not, then deny entry by locking or blocking doors. Defend yourself if needed. Remain calm and await further instructions.
  • Hold. Remain in your area until all clear is announced. Do business as usual and wait for further instructions.

 

Notification Process

Emergency Managment transmits Standard Response Procedures and instruction after confirming an actual emergency or significan incident

Speakers and Sirens: Office phones double as emergency notification speakers.

 

Social Media/Webpage: Used to provide more detailed information.

 

In case of an emergency: See something - Say something

  • Know the location of the nearest telephone and call 972.578.5555
  • Report all pertinent information and facts: WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and HOW.  At this point, the campus provost will manage the information flow.  Please treat the incident confidentially.
  • NOTIFY campus provost once emergency personnel or campus police have arrived and the immediate crisis is being managed.
